Berghoff Stainless Steel Paper Towel Holder

Yes, I know it's a paper towel holder, but it's something you see and use everyday so it should look and work great. This product gets 5 stars in every respect. The weighted base keeps it from tipping over. The spring-tension arm keeps the roll from unrolling. It's easy to refill and takes up little counter space.

I will probably never need to replace this because the quality is so high, but if I do, I would buy the same product again.

If I paid the regular $40 it usually sells for, this would be a 1-2 star rating. Because I got it on an Amazon Warehouse deal for less than 1/2 of that (Prime Shipped, of course), it gets 3 stars.

From a looks perspective, the stainless steel is nice. The unit is solid and looks like a quality product. Sadly, everything is downhill from here.

When it arrived, there was no spring tension on the spring loaded arm. Because of this, it just flopped around and didn't serve any purpose. I realigned the arm and tightened down the two small allen screws which fixed this.

The arm can only hold tension enough to do a 1-handed towel tear if the roll is 1/2 full or more. Below that, the arm doesn't have the ability to hold enough tension.

The above problem is partly due to another design flaw. The diameter of the rod that holds the paper towel tube is too small, allowing the roll to flop around and be pushed further away from the spring loaded arm than necessary. Paper towel rolls all seem to be about the same diameter so it doesn't make any sense for this to be smaller.

At $40 I would have sent this back. At the price I paid it is worth keeping.

I agree with the reviewer who said, "Not bad, but it really wasn't worth the money." That sums it up perfectly... it's nice looking, but expensive for what it is. And don't expect the spring-loaded side arm to keep the paper towel from moving, unrolling, or draping... it doesn't. In fact, once the first inch (?) or so of towels are gone, the side arm doesn't even touch them anymore.

It's over priced. It works, but not that great. I expected for this price that one handed ripping would work well. Sometimes it does, but it has to be perfectly pulled, or start in the right position. It's not weighted, like others, to help, and sometimes the bar flips around. It doesn't do much when the roll gets low. It looks better than just putting paper towels out on your counter, but not worth the cost at all. Maybe $10 would be appropriate, possibly $15.
