It is made from two parts, the post welded securely to the base. The base has a one-inch bevel around the edge. The heron image is made from the same piece of iron as the base and is bent up, a perfect right angle as far as I can see. Well-balanced as in it is not inclined to tip over, and a muted finish, nice. What I was not even thinking about is the match it makes with the oven with black glass and veneer.
