I'll preface this by saying the seller was great and promptly emailed me the return info I asked for.

The ad copy says these racks will hang over every door. (Well, that's almost true--it doesn't mention anything about being able to close the doors afterwards.) If your doors fit well, forget about closing them. If they gap a little at the top you'll be okay.

Also, be sure to check the orientation of your door. This gets complicated, but they will fit only on the side opposite the direction the door swings. So if you want to hang them over a door that swings INTO a room, the device will only hang on the outside. I wanted to hang one over my bedroom door, but found that the only way to do that was to have it hang on the hall side. What good is that?

I was very disappointed upon receiving this, as my door width is slightly LESS than 1.75" and the rack was too small to go over the door.

This is the most useful item I have purchased for organizing my rental home. It is sturdy, well-made (no paint peeling, warping, or parts unglued after nearly a year of heavy use) and the wooden knobs are practical ways not to snag clothes.

I bought it for the bathroom, since I didn't want to drill any holes, and it fit perfectly over the door. When it was moved into our walk-in closet, my husband promptly took it over for his little dressing-area! Now I'll have to buy a couple more for myself and the guest room.

This rack works just fine. I chose this one because it had the wooden balls on the hooks, so no tiny hook to stretch out a hood or leave a funny mark. After several weeks of using it on my front door for my raincoat and jacket, I was so pleased with it that I bought a second one for my granddaughter's little jackets and such. Nothing slips off these, not adult items or baby ones. A useful item--does what it's supposed to do and at a reasonable price.
