iTouchless Towel-Matic II Sensor Paper Towel Dispenser

iTouchless Towel-Matic II Sensor Paper Towel Dispenser, Apple RedI am a gadget girl. Love them gadgets! Wish I could say that about this product. Got this as a Christmas gift and I wish that I had seen the reviews. This product was flimsy, all plastic and most of all, won't do what is advertised. If you think that you are getting a great product, you are not! You have to hold the holder to get the towel, if you can get a towel to come out. I had called and was told to use thicker towels. I use Bounty only. Can't think of a thicker towel than that and the product information doesn't say anything about using a particular type/brand of towels. If you line up the towel right, you can get two towels (at best, a lot of times you can't even get the first one out) to come out correctly, but then after that it wrinkles the towel and then fusses and pushes it in and out. The only way that you can get the towel is to open the dispenser. If you want two towels connected forget it. If you have stuff on your hands, I have to get a towel from our 10 buck dispenser, that uses no batteries and will give you a towel! Not sanitary because you have to open the dispenser to get a towel. I was really glad that I didn't get rid of my basic regular towel holder! Totally a waste.

Sorry to say I can't really review how this works because it was dead on arrival. I got this at christmas and was very excited but after trying to get it to work with all kinds of new batteries, etc I eventually sent it back and did not re-order a new one because I think it felt overall cheap (all plastic) and the buttons seems very flimsy and prone to breaking... and for this price, I'll go buy a 'traditional' dispenser for $9.99. Save your money on this one and look elsewhere.

My observations-

Likes:

Nice candy apple red! Beautiful to look at. Easy to install. Keeps dirty fingers from contaminating the roll, my primary reason for obtaining this product (Dirty fingers i.e. raw meat/fish coated fingers).

Dislikes:

Weak sensor, I need to get like an inch away from the sensor to activate it. Some uneven towel dispensing but I've not experienced frustration because of it, meaning it's been a minor annoyance so far, not a chuck it out the window frustration.

My installation:

Sideways. The base is bolted to a side of a cabinet with the dispensing bar facing the user.

This item dispenses very slow. It looks great but the way it "grinds" out the paper towels makes it appear cheap. I thought I had a bad set of batteries but new one's didn't fix the issue. I love cool gadgets but this was a disappointment to say the very least (especially for how pricey it was).

Saw unpleasant reviews on other sites before purchase, but decided to try anyway. Color is gorgeous with my red metallic kitchen accents. However, a nightmare to try and get more than one towel to feed automatically. Based on some recommendations I use Viva towels which are kind of thick, but still not best brand. Another reviewer mentioned a blue paper towel available only at Costco which may work; but did not want blue towels with red, black and white kitchen. Another odd thing is that the base where towel roll sits is blue metal. Looks strange with red metallic.

I intend to keep trying, but not sure if ever will work properly.
