Knape & Vogt 99AEG18 Arc Collection Glass Shelf Kit

I ordered this glass shelf because I liked the odd shape and the futuristic looking wall holder. Alas, the shelf is not shaped like the photo but is a plain half circle. Consequently, it will not work where I wanted to use it but I will keep it if I find a suitable place for it. If not, back it goes. The quality is good and I really like the wall holder. I simply wanted the shape pictured. I'm posting this for the benefit of prospective purchasers. Actually, another reviewer got the same shape I did so either we got the wrong item or the photo needs to be changed. If you can use a half circle shape, then I recommend this piece based on quality. However, if you want the shape pictured, at least two of us did not get that shape.

Let me first say I love this design! I bought them for my home theater to display collectibles. The finish work on the the metal bracket is the only flaw here. The bracket is cast in a cheap metal then painted with a gray finish enamel paint. The paint on the two I ordered was imperfect in that it has flakes of paint missing, and air bubbles in it...very poorly done.

Well, I liked the design so much I made it work by sanding down the paint, then painting it with a flat black spray paint. You can't even tell it did not come that way from the outset! The air bubbles and flakes of paint are gone and the finish is flawless. I have ordered three more for other parts of the room and will be giving them the same treatment.

I dilly-dallied between giving this item three of four stars initially it was going to be four, but I had an attack of conscience and lowered it to three. Pity there's not a 3.5 star rating.

Let me start by saying that this shelf looks VERY good when on the wall. I bought this shelf for our office to display game and movie memorabilia and it looks awesome, clean and very sci-fi.

One point to note before purchasing is that the one picture the item description page gives you is somewhat misleading. I was under the impression that the piece of glass for this shelf is shaped tri-angularly (with three sides), however upon receiving it, I found out that it is in face a shallow semi-circle. This may have impacted my decision to buy it but unlikely as the wall mount is so awesome-looking I probably would have got it anyhow.

Now to the MAJOR issue that caused me to only give this item three stars. The INSTRUCTIONS and EXECUTION of this shelf are ABYSMAL.

There is no instruction pamphlet inside the box so don't throw the box away before installing because the (very lackluster) instructions are on the back of the box. They include about six instruction diagrams, and corresponding text below. These instructions are NOT HELPFUL.

The main major issue is that when mounting the shelf bracket on the wall you MUST fit and include the black plastic and rubber seals within the metal bracket BEFORE munting the whole bracket on the wall. This is a very fiddly task, and there is a strip of flexible rubber that must be fitted INTO the hard black plastic bracket before insering it into the metal bracket BEFORE putting it on the wall. Without these parts, the shelf will be unable to be inserted into the bracket (well I guess theoretically you COULD insert the shelf into the bracket, but it would instantaneously fall to the ground, so....). There is also only ONE way that the flexible black rubber seal will fit into the hard black plastic thing to where it will actually 'bite' onto the glass when itis inserted so some trial and error may be required.

All in all it's a great shelf looks good and very clean. But the execution and instructions are just horrible. Godo luck, and stick with it!

It is rather flimsy and cheap looking once it is up. doesn't look like picture. I would not purchase again.

I love this shelf. It is perfect for any room, but specially for small bathrooms with little or no shelf space. It added charm to my otherwise plain bathroom. I have found it to be perfect to hold small decorative trinkets, plus a beautiful votive candle to add charm around me!
